More Information:

Morganite is a pink variety of beryl. The pink color comes from the presence of manganese(II), and without it or another impurity, beryl would be clear. Other noteworthy types of beryl include emerald, heliodor, and aquamarine.

The first Morganite crystals were discovered at the turn of the 20th century in Pala, California, and more was subsequently discovered in 1910 off the coast of Madagascar. It was named for mineral-enthusiast and financier J.P. Morgan on the suggestion of famed American mineralogist Frederick Kunz.
