Fluorite forms in a variety of colors and is either transparent to translucent. The chemical composition of Fluorite is CaF2, (calcium & fluorine.) The variation in colors are due to trace amounts of other elements replacing the calcium during the crystalline formation. Fluorite is actually fluorescent and will glow when illuminated with an ultraviolet light source.
Fluorite is mined for a variety of industrial uses, however although it is an exceptionally beautiful mineral and is used to a degree in lapidary uses, it is not commonly used as a semi-precious stone, due to its softness and fragility.
In Honor of Memorial Day, the Shop will be Closed, Monday, May 31st.
Hi folks! COVID cases are down! So, we are allowed to have up to 25 people in the shop &15 people in the museum. However, on Saturdays, the museum will remain closed and used only as an area for those waiting to shop.
(However, if we're slow we can sneak you down there, if you like.)
For now, face covering & use of hand sanitizer are still required when entering.
We ask that people please not come in with large groups, and please limit their stays to under an hour, so others can have the opportunity to also do their shopping.
If we have customers in line, waiting to get in, please be aware of that and be considerate.
Thanks again for your continued understanding & support!
