Demantoid Garnet was discovered in the Russian Ural Mountains in 1868. Typically green, it gets its coloring from chromium and ferric iron. Demantoid has the chemical formula Ca3Fe2(SiO4)3 and belongs to the andradite family within the Garnet group of minerals.
