Quick Overview

One can easily see that this piece was created by a grandmaster as the amount of excellent detail invested in this exquisite carving is simply incredible. The piece is two tone, making for a wonderful contrast. Part of the fossilized tusk has been left in a more natural state, and smartly provides the cliff backdrop for the Mammoth and its baby.

More Information:

The sculptures we offer are carved by Chinese Master carvers whose careers are relatively short, averaging between the ages of 35 to 50 years old. At the age of 35, a carver is considered to have had enough experience to be considered a master. Unfortunately, the extreme amount of hand eye coordination required to carve such delicate artistry takes its toll on both a carver's eyesight and steadiness of hand. And, the artist's body also begins to wear down due to the constant hunching over when carving their masterpieces. Therefore, most Chinese Master carvers end their careers they love so at the young ages around 50 to 55 years old.
