Collection: Millipedes & Centipedes

Mazon Creek millipedes were likely similar to their modern forms in that they burrowed and lived amidst detritus on the swamp floor. Fossil centipedes from the area are the earliest known examples in the fossil record. They were likely agile hunters of insects. Species of Arthropleura grew to a length of seven feet and are the largest known terrestrial arthropods of all. It is also the biggest land animal in the Mazon Creek Biota. Concretions generally contain only body parts and coprolites made of broken-up lycopsid cone bracts.
