More Information

The term Luristan references antiquities made by a society of semi-nomadic people that once lived in the mountainous region of Northwest Iran. These cast-bronze blades would have been used as weapons of war by soldiers of the ancient Iranian Empire - one of the world’s first superpowers. But more than weapons, these tools were regarded as symbols of power and status, and often used as objects of ceremony and pageantry. Wax cast from an alloy of copper & tin, these artifacts are an early representation of the so-called Bronze Age. During the second and first millenia B.C., this emerging industry would revolutionize the worlds of art, agriculture & military endeavors. These shaft-hole axe heads have been sealed and stabilized, preventing further corrosion and preserving their museum-quality patina.
