Copper is a mineral and element (Cu) that is an essential part of human life. It is the oldest metal used by man, dating back more than 10,000 years. As an industrial metal, it’s commonly used due to its malleability, conductivity, and resistance to corrosion. It’s also an essential nutrient and can be found in foods such as dried beans, seeds and nuts, chocolate, whole wheat, meat, and seafood. Another beneficial property of Copper is that it can be used to prevent infection due to its antimicrobial properties. As for decorative or collectable specimens, formations typically include Native Copper, Float Copper, or Copper Ore, which is mined from Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. This area of the United States (also known as “Copper Country”), has been one of the most important localities in the world for mining pure native copper beginning in 1845 and ending in 1982.
