Eudialyte is a complex ore of zirconium that is prized by collectors. It only from a few places in the world making it rare, and it is known for its vivid pink to red color and unique composition. The fascinating patterns and status make it a coveted gemstone used in jewelry and ornamental sculptures, and occasionally as a specimen in rough form. The name Eudialyte translates to "well decomposable" in Greek, refering to its solubility in acids.

After collecting fossils as a hobby for many years growing up, Dave Douglass opened Dave's Down to Earth Rock Shop in 1970 at the age of 20 (with the help of his parents) at 1312 Chicago Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. The shop contained minerals and fossils, mostly self-collected by the Douglass family.
