Selenite is the transparent and colorless form of a variety of Gypsum. There are 4 crystalline varieties of Gypsum: Selenite, Satin Spar, Desert Rose and Gypsum Flower. Selenite crystals commonly occur as reticular, columnar and mica-like sheets. These sheets can appear with no imperfections or inclusions and have been known to be used as glass panels. Selenite received its name from the Greek goddess of the moon, Selene. Metaphysically, Selenite is known for its calming and cleansing properties. It can be used during meditation or in a large room to re-charge the space. It is water soluble, so it should not be rinsed or immersed in water.
