Faden Quartz occurs when Quartz crystals grow in a fault zone, where earthquakes and other movement in the earth cause the crystal to grow in beautiful chain-like patterns. As the earth splits further and further apart, quartz deposits add upon each other and create a “bridge” between the widening gap in the earth. This constant movement and change in environment makes these crystals have fascinating formations that are admired by collectors
After collecting fossils as a hobby for many years growing up, Dave Douglass opened Dave's Down to Earth Rock Shop in 1970 at the age of 20 (with the help of his parents) at 1312 Chicago Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. The shop contained minerals and fossils, mostly self-collected by the Douglass family.
