Rhodochrosite (whose name means rose-colored) is commonly found in the form of stalactites and stalagmites in Argentina. The pink or reddish hue is caused by the element manganese. This is a relatively soft stone that ranges between 3.5-4.0 on the Mohs scale of hardness. This stone encourages a positive attitude, rejuvenates the soul, opens the heart chakra, enhances creativity, innovation, and dream states.
After collecting fossils as a hobby for many years growing up, Dave Douglass opened Dave's Down to Earth Rock Shop in 1970 at the age of 20 (with the help of his parents) at 1312 Chicago Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. The shop contained minerals and fossils, mostly self-collected by the Douglass family.
