More Information

Ortnithomimids were a group of theropod dinosaurs that have been especially useful for research in the origin of birds. They show a convergent evolution with ratite birds (ex. Ostriches). They were slender, lightweight, and large in size. They grew 20+ feet in size in some locations. Scientists believe they were fast runners, perhaps some of the fastest dinosaurs to exist. They most likely had a weak jaw/beak and ate mostly small animals and plant material.
