More Information

Cavansite is a rich blue mineral named for its chemical composition, calcium vanadium silicateThe crystals are orthorhombic structures that commonly form with stilbite, pentagonite, heulandite, mordenite and other minerals, found in India, Iceland, and the United States. The chemical formula for cavansite is Ca(VO)(Si4O10) 4H2O. As minerals go it is a young find, having been first discovered in Malheur County, Oregon in 1967 (just 3 years before our shop opened). Cavansite most often forms in small, spherulitic rosettes composed of many tiny, radiating crystals. It is now found primarily in a few localities in India, and continues to be quite rare.
