More Information

Onchopristis is an extinct giant (up to 26 feet long) sawfish from Africa and New Zealand. These marine creatures lived in the lower cretaceous to upper cretaceous time period. They had elongated snouts with barbed teeth that faced outward, and eyes on top of the head to easily spot predators. Similar to modern sharks and rays, Onchopristis are thought to have had electrosensors to detect prey swimming below them.
