Bivalves (Clams)

Bivalves of the Mazon Creek Fauna were filter-feeders that lived in and on the mud and sand in shallow water. They were so common in some areas that one collecting locality was dubbed “Chowder Flats.” Evidence learned from comparing other marine assemblages suggests that the Essex Fauna bivalve assemblage lived in poorly oxygenated and brackish water.
